Hostas come in a wide range of sizes and as you go through our listing you will see a letter in parenthesis after the name which denotes the height of the plant…the ledger below will help to convert this to inches.
Hacksaw
[S] (Livingston) Ron Livingston is one of many very serious hosta hybridizers working today and we are quite excited to be introducing several of his creations. H. ‘Hacksaw’ is a small, rapidly growing plant with long narrow and tapered leaves that are intensely rippled and serrated. The leaf edge looks dangerous, but the only damage likely to be incurred is to your perceptions of what might previously have been termed “hosta”. Truly groundbreaking from a genetic perspective, it’s appeal as a “collector’s hosta” in no way disputes its garden worthiness. Blooms very late in the season with lavender flowers and is extremely fertile both ways. This sun-tolerant hosta is an absolute “must have” and truly, “one of a kind”
Hadspen Blue
[M] (Smith/Aden) TF2x7 A low-growing clump with rounded blue-green leaves that
have excellent substance and good texture...one of the "bluest" and topped with pale lavender
flowers in July
Halcyon
[M] (Smith/BHHS) TF1x7 One of the best medium-sized "blues" in the Hosta
World...makes a wonderful clump and the plant exhibits superior vigor. Blue leaves are flat
with prominent veins and heavy substance. Topped with lavender flowers
midsummer
Hanky Panky PPAF
[S/M] (Hans Hansen) Stunning new sport of H. ‘Striptease’…leaf emerges with a dark green center surrounded by a wide light dusty-green margin with dark green veins and the typical white H. ‘Striptease’ pattern. Later in the season the leaf changes to a creamy-yellow center surrounded by a darker green pattern that replaces the white ‘Striptease’ pattern and there is also a concentration of green near the leaf tip. The margin changes to creamy-white. This vigorous grower is topped with pale lavender flowers in July. The transformation makes this a very unique specimen that will demand much attention
Happily Ever After
[M] (Wilkins) From Jim Wilkins comes a new blue…clump only reaches about 14” tall. Pointed blue-green leaves have a heavily rippled margin and are somewhat twisted. Leaves have very thick substance and are topped with near white flowers in August
Harry van de Laar
[M] (Cees Visser) Recently introduced by the Dutch Hosta Society at their 15th Anniversary meeting…named in honor of Harry van de Laar, a well known Dutch plants man who passed away four years ago and did a lot of work with nomenclature of perennials, trees and shrubs. This is a seedling that comes from H. longipes hypoglauca x H. ‘Maruba Iwa’. The leaves are grayish-green with white backs and are held on red petioles. The red goes up into the leaves which are topped with lilac flowers in later summer. Good substance and makes a medium sized clump………(photo by Jeroen Linneman)
Harry van Trier
[S] (Spruyt) A H. sieboldii hybrid from Europe...narrow dark green leaves have wavy margins and extemely good substance (no other same-type has such good substance). Lavender flowers make an impressive display midsummer. Named after a well know European Hosta collector
Heartbeat
[M] (Dean) Another wonderful offering from Don Dean of Minnesota…H. ‘Heartbeat’ presents itself in a dense, low mound of medium green heart-shaped leaves framed with a nice gold margin. Leaves have very good substance. At 11” tall it quickly forms a 30” mound working itself well into the front of the border. Pale lavender flowers on dusty rose scapes add to its charm in mid season
Heat Wave
[M] (Jan van den Top) This beautiful new introduction from Jan van den Top of Holland is a sport of H. ‘Bright Lights’…thick leather-like leaves have a chartreuse-yellow center surrounded by a very wide blue-green border. The plant is very vigorous and holds its “looks” throughout and to the very end of the season. Topped with lavender flowers midsummer and can take quite a bit of sun. A great addition!

We would like to show you a picture of every Hosta we list but just cannot do so...a very
ambitious gentleman by the name of Bob Axmear has generously given thousands of hours and
developed an online Hosta Library that has thousands of pictures in alphabetical order. He

**Hi Ho Silver
[S] (Walters Gardens) Lance-shaped leaves on this wide white margined
sport of H. ‘Ginko Craig…has a smaller growing habit and maintains that “cute” look. Flowers
are dark purple
**High Society
[S] (Hansen/Shady Oaks) Another striking sport of H. ‘June’…leaves emerge in the spring with a warm yellow
center that brightens to white by midsummer. A wide blue margin surrounds the center that varies and shows some streaking.
Superior substance and topped with pale lavender flowers that are held just above the mound in late summer
**Hollywood Lights PP#17,296
[L] (Hansen) Large dome-shaped dark green leaves have a
striking yellow center and form a large clump topped by arching scapes of pale lavender flowers in
midsummer. This is a wider-margined selection of H. ‘On Stage’
Holy Mole
[L] (Hansen/Avent) This sport of H. ‘Guacamole’ has a very wide dark green border surrounding a narrow chartreuse center. The domed leaves are very thick and cup downward.
Late summer brings large fragrant near-white flowers on this extremely vigorous plant
**Hotspur
[M] (Chrystal) From Great Britain…this beauty has leaves of good
substance with a creamy center surrounded by a gray-green border. The leaves are held
upright and slightly cupped. Not a fast grower but ok
**Hush Puppy
[S] (Avent) This little guy literally grows like a weed! A H. venusta hybrid and has
tiny, heart-shaped gray-green leaves with a creamy-white margin. Because of its size and rapid growth
rate, it is suitable for edging the border or growing in a container. Clump is topped with dark lavender
flowers in early summer
Hyuga Urajiro
[S] (Japan) We have been excited about this plant since we first saw it…imported into the US by Hideko Gowen of Minnesota and graciously shared with the Hosta world. This kikutii has long, narrow frosty blue leaves with yellow streaks and the undersides are a metallic silver color. Hyuga is the place the plant was found and Urajiro means white back
Iced Lemon
[S] (Hemish-Batten) First time offered in US...a sport of the well known H. 'Lemon Lime'. A rapid grower with the same lemon colored leaves but surrounded with a clear white border. Found in a private garden in Great Britain and very close to H. 'Lemon Frost' recently introduced in the US
**Imp
[mini] (Hansen) A unique mini...elongated heart-shaped leaves are only about 1” x 2” long
with a slightly ripple margin. The dark green leaves are rather shiny and have a crisp creamy-white
border. Pale purple flowers appear in July on a clump that displays pretty good substance
Immense
[L] (Simpers/Ruh) Has H. montana parentage…very bright green and quite shiny leaves make a dense clump in no time. Topped with near white flowers midseason
Independence PP#17,044
[M] (Walters Gardens) A reverse sport of H. ‘Revolution’…dark green leaves have creamy-white margins that are speckled with green. Leaves have thick substance and are topped with pale lavender flowers
Inniswood
[L] (Inniswood Metro Gardens) Rounded green-gold (almost yellow) leaves have a dark green margin and are slightly
cupped. A plant with excellent substance and near-white flowers
**Island Charm
[mini] (Rasmussen/Malloy) Dwarf clump of yellow to white centered leaves with green margins…pink
petioles, scapes and pinkish-lavender flowers—sometimes even pink seed pods
**Ivory Coast
[M] (Savory) A smaller sport of H. ‘Sagae’...grey-green leaves have a wide rippled yellow border in spring that
later turns to ivory. Great substance and topped with lavender flowers
Jason and Katie
[M] (Hatfield) A sport of H. 'Christmas Gold' that is one of the most
vigorous hostas we've seen... dark green leaves are very round and surrounded by a bright
yellow border. Tremendous substance and heavy puckering on a low growing clump that doesn't
seem to mind dryer conditions. Named after Mr. Hatfield's long time pets that both passed on
in the same year. We can't say enough good things about this plant
Alttara Scheer brings more excitement…
**Jaws
[S] (Scheer) Don’t let the small size fool you! This is one tough
plant. H. ‘Jaws’ has teeth that can bite. Deep green intensely serrated and
undulating leaves thick enough to rustle and scratch if you brush against them.
A fast growing, dense clump that calls out to be man-handled. Don’t worry, it
can take it! Grows fine and looks good in full sun but to show-case the darkest
green it appreciates a bit of shade
Jay B. Abendroth
Chamberlain and is a blue seedling of H. ‘Treasure’. Forms a large, neat, dome-shaped mound of slightly rippled round blue leaves and is topped with white flowers. Very heavy substance for outstanding slug resistance
Newer intro from Randy Goodwin
**Jen
[M] (Goodwin) Leaves have dark green centers surrounded by a wide, rippled creamy-white
border. Plant grows differently depending on placement, moisture and light. In moist shade it grows
larger and in the sun it is a smaller and much brighter plant. Lavender flowers in midsummer
Jewel of the Nile
[M] (Walek) A fantastic sport from H. ‘Dee’s Golden Jewel’ that displays
a unique and appealing color combination…the leaves have blue centers surrounded by an
irregular golden-yellow border with some streaking. Leaf is quite rounded but comes to a point
and has superior substance. Topped with pale lavender flowers in June
Journey’s End
[L] (Hans Hansen) Another great introduction from Hans Hansen and he says its one of his favorites…sport of H. ‘Choo Choo Train’ with heart-shaped yellow-gold leaves framed by a wide dark green border with a ruffled edge. Best grown in morning sun or lots of filtered light. Topped with pale lavender flowers
Juha
[S/M] (Fransen) Marco Fransen brings us another sport from H. ‘Striptease’…this one does not grow as large as its parent but does have better substance. Goldish-green leaves are surrounded by a very wavy white margin that can turn to a yellow-green later in the season depending on placement. The ‘Striptease’ signature “white line” is still apparent on this moderate grower. Different from H. ‘Hanky Panky’. Lavender flowers
Julie Morss
[M] (Morss) Leaves have light gold centers (almost bright yellow) with
chartreuse and green borders in the spring and fade to pale green in summer...lavender flowers
and good substance
June
[M] (NEO Plants) One of the best hostas on the market...this super sport of H.
'Halcyon' has leaves with a bright gold to yellow center and wide blue margins. Superior
substance and pest resistance ...when all the other hostas have gone to sleep in the fall you
will probably still find H. 'June' looking more than presentable. Lavender flowers held high
above the pointed leaves in late July and early
August
June Fever
PPAF [M] (Jan van den Top) Jan brings us another great sport from H. 'June'...this flashy plant comes up in the spring with a bright yellow (becomes orangish) leaf center surrounded by a thin blue-green border. There is no grayish wax on the leaves so the finish is shiny. The color holds until about the end of June and then begins to darken slowly until it becomes chartreuse. H. 'June Fever' has all the same great attributes as its parent-good substance, vigorous growth habit and the ability to outlast most other hostas well into fall. Topped with bluish lavender flowers midsummer
June Moon
[M] (Lachman) Large lime green leaves have a wide creamy white border…upright growth habit and is topped with near-white flowers
